A beautiful smile adds beauty to your face!

If you’re looking for a surefire way to brighten up your day, the answer is just a smile away! It can make your day brighter. It is a symbol of happiness and warmth. It radiates from inside and has inspired one of the most famous works of art! But most of all, it displays your true beauty and is the first thing that anyone will notice.

So what’s the secret to a smile? Quite simply, the key to a vibrant and glowing smile is to have healthy teeth by avoiding cavities, taking care of your gums and practicing proper oral hygiene. But, what do you do exactly to protect your pearly whites?

  • Brush your teeth at least twice a day with toothpaste, especially after breakfast and before bedtime
  • Floss everyday
  • Visit your dentist regularly

You can also ensure a few other habits for better dental health. These include:

An overall healthy diet!

Proper nutrition plays a big role in affecting your overall health, and is equally important in maintaining healthy teeth and gums. A varied and well-balanced diet gives your gum tissue and teeth the essential nutrients and minerals they need to stay strong and healthy. For example, eating firm and fibrous foods such as fruits and vegetables help to clean your teeth and are important for healthy gums.

Other important ingredients for a great smile are the 2 minerals calcium and phosphorous. They are the main nutrients for building and strengthening teeth. The best sources for calcium are milk and milk products like yoghurt, cheeses and labneh. Phosphorous is also found in milk and milk products as well as in fish, chicken, beef, burghul, lentils, beans and eggs.

Avoiding sticky sugary foods!

The main reason for dental caries is actually how long food that contains sugar stays stuck to your teeth. Normally, the enamel will wipe away the sugars and cariogenic food every 20-30 minutes. However, if the sugary food is in contact with your teeth for longer than that, then the bacteria will ferment the sugar and convert it into acid which will cause decay and caries.

So try and limit sugary foods which are not nutritious in the first place, especially sticky snacks like caramel, nougat etc. These soft, sticky foods tend to remain on the grooves and between teeth for a long time, preventing the normal cleansing system and thus more plaque is produced.

Scheduling your meals and snacks!

Limit the number of times you eat snacks each day to no more than 2 snacks between your main meals. The more often you eat, especially if you eat continuously, the less chance you give for the bacteria in the month to cleanse the teeth.

Once again, your pearly whites are all about healthy dental habits and a healthy diet. It’ll be the shine behind your dazzling smile, because the more you take care of your teeth, the more beautiful your smile will be, and definitely the less you’ll visit your dentist!
